The Natural History Museum outstands for its peculiar architecture
Today is marked the International Museum Day, a date instituted by the United Nations, as a response to the initiative of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, which became a call for the entire world to visit these institutions.

Every year an invitation is released to reflect on the value of preserving heritage.

This year the motto for the celebrations is Museums for social harmony.

The main goals this time include becoming aware of the social object of these cultural centers, which is to preserve and keep the natural and cultural heritage of the world and re-evaluate their part, since they carry out a work oriented toward knowledge, preservation and promotion of the cultural assets.

Our country, as member of this Council, marks the date every year in the 300 institutions of the kind in the Island.

The Cuban State that aims to achieve a general culture in our society, summons the people to visit these centers in order to widen the knowledge of the rich history of a nation with over five centuries of existence, assess the roots, as well as objects and belongings of illustrious people and institutions.

The staff of the museums is constantly summoning all those that can donate objects and documents to enrich the collections, so that more people could learn about local, national and world history, widen their culture and enjoy of the collections.

May 18 is an occasion for all the people interested in these spaces where national culture, tradition and identity have their place, to make this commemoration of their own.
