Trump Sacks Tillerson, Names Pompeo as New Secretary of State

U.S. president, Donalsd Trump, announced today the dismissal of Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State, who will be substituted by the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Mike Pompeo.

In what the local media describe as a result of a complicated relationship, that had its moments of public disagreement on important issues of foreign policy, the president announced in his social network Twitter account, where he thanked Tillerson for his service.

'Mike Pompeo, CIA director, will become our new Secretary of State, he will do a fine work! , indicated the Republican president in the microblogging service.

He also informed that Gina Haspel will substitute Pompeo as head of the intelligence agency and stressed she is the first woman to be elected for that position.

Officials of the White House consulted on the issue by daily The Washington Post indicated this move represents a great change in the team of national security amid the delicate negotiations with the People's Democratic Republic of Korea (PDRK).

According to the daily, Trump asked Tillerson last Friday to move aside, making the head of the diplomacy to end before planned a tour in Africa and to return to Washington DC this Monday.

'I want to thank Rex Tillerson for his service. Much has been done in the last 14 months and I wish him and his family the best', expressed the President in a communiqué sent to the newspaper.

Trump, who had different disagreements with Tillerson, considered it was important to change now, while he prepares for talks with the leader of the PDRK, Kim Jong Un, according to three officials quoted by the Post.

Rumors on a possible resignation or dismissal of Tillerson occurred at different previous moments, as when the NBC News network said that last summer Vicepresident Mike Pence and other high officials intervened to persuade him to stay in his post amid tensions with Trump.

According to that network, Pence met with the head of diplomacy days after the latter openly criticized the President and called him an idiot during a session at the Pentagon with the team of national security and other cabinet officials.
