Cuban female triple jumper Yargelis Savigne might be benefitted with the bronze medal of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (China), after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that Russian athlete Tatiana Lebedeva had been consuming drugs, and was disqualified.
IOC sanctioned Tatiana Lebedeva, Olympic runner-up in Beijing in the female triple jump, after a new revision of samples by Lebedeva, that showed traces of anabolic steroid known as Turinabol.
The Cuban female triple jumper, two-time outdoor World Champion (in Osaka 2007, with 15.28 meters, and in Berlin 2009 with 14.95) and once indoor champion, in Valencia (Spain) with 15.05, registered 15.05 in Beijing, and ended in the 5th place in a competition with six women who jumped (including all of them) 10 jumps over the 15 meters, in that competition.
In that spectacular event, at the famous Bird's Nest Stadium of the Chinese, Cameroonian Françoise Mbango Etone won the gold with a jump of 15.39 m, for an Olympic record.
Lebedeva reached then 15.32 m, Greek Hrysopiyi Devetzi crossed over 15.23 m, to stay on third, Kazakh Olga Rypakova, 15.11 m and the Slovenian Marija Sestak, 15.03 m.
After the disqualifications, first of Devetzi, in September, after give positive for another forbidden suabstance, Stanozolol, and now of Lebedeva, the Cuban must appear as third in the podium of the triple jump in the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008.
