7 Cuban Boxers Qualify to WBC Semi-finals

With seven boxers in semi-finals, Cuba is the most-represented country in the World Boxing Championship (WBC), which is held in Hamburg, Germany.

Cuban boxers won seven of eight fights to assure so far a total of seven bronze medals.

Cuban coach Rolando Acebal's boxers evened the total of medals obtained in Doha 2015. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will depend on six boxers each. The United States will have only three.

Only two Russian boxers qualified to the finals. Meanwhile, Colombia and Ecuador complete the presence of Latin America and the Caribbean with one boxer each.

The three-time AIBA World Champions and Olympic gold medalist Julio Cesar Cruz (81 kg) and Lazaro Alvarez (60 kg), the 18-year-old AIBA World Champion Joahnys Argilagos (49 kg), Roniel Iglesias (69 kg), Milan 2009 WBC Andy Cruz (64 kg) and AIBA World Runners-up Yosbany Veitia (52 kg) and Erislandy Savon (91 kg) are the Cuban boxers who qualified for semi-finals.
