Yarisley Silva Wins First Medal for Cuba at IAAF World Championship

Local Yarisley Silva won the bronze medal at the Athletics World Championship underway in London, Great Britain.
The best pole vaulter of Cuban history jumped 4.65m in an event totally dominated by Greek Ekaterine Stefanidi, (4.91), followed by American Sandi Morris (4.75). Despite, this was not her best year, Silva showed a personal store in 2017 of 4.81 achieved on June 15 at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo, Norway.
Although Silva could not hold the title reached two years ago in Beijing, she managed to be in the podium for their time in a row in these tournaments, which demonstrates the competitiveness of the Cuban athlete. This bronze is the first medal for Cuba in the championship, added to the fourth place of heptathlonist Yorgelis Rodríguez, which set a national record with 6 594 points.
