La Bajada,a community located in the most western part of Pinar del Rio, was affected by Hurricane Michael last week. The Martha Machado brigade, headed by Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho) comes to this region to help the residents to reestablish their daily life.
Kcho told Radio Sandino that the brigade task is a 100% work of the Revolution. “Our work has two directions: helping people to recover –during the day the artists collaborate with the cleaning- and at night we go to the same place to do cultural work".
The artist said that the work in Sandino has been intense but "it is always a privilege when it is useful (...) It has been motivating to see children, families, involved in recovery actions and that shows that there is a sense of belonging and deep responsibility "
Amateur artists from cultural institutions in Pinar del Rio and members of the José Martí Brigade have also enrolled to bring art, colors and joy to the victims, according to the statements of Pedro Julio Cordero Morales, provincial director of Culture.
