Good Tobacco Harvest Season in San Juan y Martinez

The tobacco production in the municipality of San Juan y Martinez defines the results of each harvest season in the province, and this year the predictions are excellent, said Joel Hernandez, director of the Tobacco Gathering and Improvement Company in the territory.

So far there are 3 384 hectares out of the 3 345 in the plan, and 350 of them correspond to shade grown tobacco. Although it is early to talk about quality and yield, they expect higher results than previous campaigns.
Some 2 350 000 poles have been already harvested and the labor force is not enough. In regard to curing barns, the construction plan in 2016 was 100 under the plan, mostly due to lack of roofs.

They started harvesting shade tobacco and as the labor force demand reduces the sorting houses will open in the countryside, since they intend to produce higher volumes of production.

Last year, this company broke the long period of losses and closed the year with profits. The director recognizes that the current season is intense.

He also noted the spirit of the growers, since they are very optimistic for the good pace kept so far.
