Productive Poles for More Food in the Province

To increase the presence of food in markets and stores, is a priority in Pinar del Rio based on the fostering of productive poles, sites distributed all over the province with high expectations for the development of agriculture.

Such is the case of Hermanos Barcón pole, located about 12 miles from the city, and where several entities of the territory helped preparing the land and repairing the access trails
With a total of 2 500 hectares, the fruits of the systematic work is already noticed, since so far there are 1 700 dedicated to various crops, vegetables and grains, especially beans.

According to Víctor Fidel Hernández Pérez, head of Agricultura in Pinar del Rio, each municipality promotes the development of the poles in order to self-sufficiency, for which they received irrigation systems, supplies and machinery.
Officials of the sector in the province affirm that they expect some 1 300 tons over the figures reached before the creation of the poles, which will translate into a better offer in markets and therefore the satisfaction of the people.
