Pinar del Río sent some 930 poles from the Impregnation Plant, only of its kind in Cuba to the eastern region slashed by hurricane Matthew.
With nine and 10 meters long, 180 poles will be destined to works of the Power Company while 750 poles of seven meters will be delivered for tasks of the Cuban Telecommunication Company (Etecsa).
Tomás Manuel García Crespo, seceratry general of the Provincial Bureau of the Agricultural and Forest Workers Union, said that other 200 poles are ready to be sent.
He added that several brigades of the sector are available in the western territory to offer any kind of aid to the areas damaged after the hit of the meteorological event.
The plant, located in the municipality of Guane, had reported until September, a production of 20 000 poles for the power and telephone grids.
To process poles in the Island is a substantial foreign currency saving for the country, since its coast ascends to 110 pesos in case of imports to 340 dollars.
The transportation of poles by train and trucks joins the efforts of Pinar del Rio to contribute to the recovery phase in the places hit by the hurricane, especially in Guantanamo.
