“I declare the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power of Pinar del Rio constituted for its 12th term”, said Jorge Jesús Cirión Martínez, president of the electoral commission of the territory after presenting each one of the delegates and verifying their certificates.
In a session held this Sunday March 25 was created the 75 member legislative body, made up by 37 women, 74 delegates born after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, an average age of 48,6 years old, 61 university graduates and 14 high school graduates, 26,7 percent black or mixed race members, 16 dedicated to production, nine district presidents and 41 local delegates. On behalf of the Assembly, Guillermina García read the oath which was verbally ratified and signed by the delegates who signed the moral and ethic commitment to be worthy representatives of the people. The candidature commission announced Ernesto Barreto Castillo as president and Leonor Lina Plasencia Hernández as vicepresident, both ratified with 73 votes out of 75 possible. Gladys Martinez Verdecia, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in the province closed the meeting recognizing the work of the electoral commission during the process as well as the participation of the people. The session was presided over by the deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power elected by the people last March 11.
