In the evening of this January 17th, the people of Pinar del Río marked the 59th anniversary of the victorious entrance of Fidel Castro and the Caravan of Liberty to the province.
The Caravan was now integrated by students, youths and members of the Association of Cuban Combatants. The main event took place in the intersection of Marti and Rafael Ferro streets, the historical spot where Fidel addressed the people in 1959. The ceremony was presided over by Gladys Martínez Verdecia, member of the Central Comité and first secretary of the Party in Pinar del Rio and Jose Antonio Carmona Enríquez, first secretary of the Party in the municipality, among other officials.
“Today it is a day of immense joy, but especially of commitment and responsibility with the future of the Homeland. Let’s make ourselves worthy of this Revolution, let’s use our energy, our knowledge to develop the country with the conviction that the victory will always be ours”, said Ana Leydis Iglesias Cruz, first secretary of the Young Communist League in the territory, who delivered the key address of the event.
