Living Mangrove Photo Exhibition Inaugurated

The exterior walls of the Bus Terminal of Pinar del Río were recently covered by several PVC large scale images of Cuban mangroves.

The exhibition, entitled Living Mangrove, is aimed at showing to the population the ecological functions of these ecosystems, which are indispensable for the Cuban archipelago and highly vulnerable to the impact of strong winds and climate change. “Their significance has been ignored for a long time, they have been underrated due to the mud and the mosquitoes. We believe that showing their values in a public space like this one, in such a crowded place, is a different way for people to become aware of their importance”, said Omelio Borroto Leiseca, one of the director of the series La Naturaleza Secreta de Cuba (Cuba’s secret nature), of Mundo Lationo studios, project that, through documentaries, takes the unknown natural marvels of the country around the world.

Living Mangrove includes the art of many photographers who donated their images, among them local José Rivera Rosales, who is also a scientific advisor of the series.

“Mine is the one of Los Colorados archipelago, a fascinating place that covers the northern part of the province of Pinar del Río, with a submerged cultural heritage practically unexplored, said José to the media.

The display is dedicated to doctor Leda Menendez, who passed away during the shooting of a chapter of the program La Naturaleza Secreta de Cuba. Leda dedicated her life to the study of biological sciences, especially mangrove ecosystems. The pictures were previously exhibited in the exterior walls of Castillo de la Real Fuerza in Havana and are expected to go all over the country.
