Good News for Tobacco in Pinar del Río

Despite the droughts that affected the tobacco harvest season, the growers of La Palma municipality have planted 15 hectares more than the 400 planned for the territory.

Until the first have of April the picking of leaves was at 103 percent, while stocking was at 68, an indicator that is expected to increase after the rain of the last few days, since the loosening was not possible due to the unfavourable weather conditions.
According to Pavel Luis Rodríguez Zamora, vicepresident for distribution and economy of the Municipal Administration Company, noted that so far the quality estimates are positive, the leaves have no spots or other damages.

He added that they have no reports of losses in the planted areas and they expect to accomplish the commitment of 380 tons by the end of the season.

On the other hand, he concluded, as part of the increase of the cultivation process, for next season the sowing areas will be extended and the sorting house are already set to recover the current delay in the gathering and improvement of tobacco.
