189 countries against the blockade

189 countries against the blockade

The international community condemned almost unanimously the US blockade against Cuba. 189 delegations voted in favor of the Cuban resolution, while the United States and Israel did it against and there was no abstention.

Once again, the General Assembly of the United Nations ruled against the genocidal blockade, which for almost 60 years has punished an entire country for their sovereign decision to undertake their own destiny.

Before the vote, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, exposed the severe human damages left by the blockade to our country.

He also referred to the meaning of this politics regarding the development of Cuba economy: “it continues to be the main obstacle of the 2030 development plan; it is a violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law; it violates international rules of commerce and freedom of navigation whileit opposes the consensus of the community of Latin American, Caribbean and world states and summons the righteous rejection of the international community. It continues to be a defining sign of the bilateral relationship between the US and Cuba, despite our intentions of dialogue based on mutual respect.

"Cubans of all generations will keep unwavering loyalty to the example of José Martí to proclaim, with equal conviction, rather than give up in the effort to see freedom for their country. First the southern sea will be joined to the North Sea and a snake will be born from an eagle's egg ", culminated Rodríguez Parrilla.

Although the United States tried to undermine the normal development of the process, by submitting eight different amendments to the draft resolution of Cuba, the majority of the representatives in the United Nations rejected them.
