Cubans, Foreign Guests Celebrate May Day

Millions of Cubans throughout the island are celebrating May Day, being the major march at Havana Revolution Square as there are also rallies in all 15 provincial capitals in which over 1,600 foreign guests are participating.

The President of Seychelles, Danny Faure, standing between his Cuban peer, Raul Castro, and First Vice President Miguel Diaz Canel watched and waved a Cuban flag as the colorful massive march went by at the Revolution Square.

Faure is on a working visit to strengthen bilateral relations hosted the opening of the Indian Ocean island nation's Embassy in Havana.

Over 1,600 foreign representatives of trade and solidarity organizations from 86 countries have joined Cuban workers' celebrations.

The huge assemblages under the main theme of 'Our Strength Rests on Unity' take this year a special significance as it is the first May Day celebration in 58 years without the living presence of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

A second giant banner at the Revolution Square presiding over the march reads: 'Unity Gave Us Victory'. The event this year is dedicated to the youth, particularly to the 55th Anniversary of the Young Communist League.

A huge block of more than 50,000 students from Havana Technological University Jose Antonio Echevarria, as well as from military academies, students federations and youth organizations such as Hermanos Saiz Association opened the march.
