Representatives from the Cuban Foreign Ministry (Minrex) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held consultations here to review the state of bilateral relations, the Minrex website reported on Sunday.
The general director for Multilateral Affairs and International Law at Minrex, Rodolfo Reyes, and the chief of operations of the ICRC for the Americas, Angela Gussing, analyzed the humanitarian impact of different kinds of weapons and the regimen for their control.
The need to strengthen the promotion, knowledge and respect for the standards and principles of International Humanitarian Law was also discussed at the meeting, held as part of the mechanism of traditional dialogue between the two parties.
The meeting was an occasion to strengthen relations between Cuba and the ICRC and to evaluate the process to promote exchange and cooperation in matters of mutual interest.
The ICRC is an independent and neutral organization founded in Geneva in 1863. It provides humanitarian aid to the victims of armed conflicts and other violent situations.
